On the Prediction of Solar Cycles

Abstract This article deals with the prediction of upcoming solar activity cycle, Solar Cycle 25. We propose that astronomical ephemeris, specifically taken from catalogs aphelia four Jovian planets, could be drivers variations in activity, represented by series sunspot numbers (SSN) 1749 to 2020. use singular spectrum analysis (SSA) associate components similar periods ephemeris and SSN. determine transfer function between two data sets. improve match successive steps: first Jupiter only, then planets finally including commensurable pairs (following Mörth Schlamminger Planetary Motion, Sunspots Climate, Solar-Terrestrial Influences on Weather Climate , 193, 1979). The can applied predict future cycles. test this success using “hindcast prediction” Cycles 21 24, only preceding these cycles, analyzing separately 130 140 year-long halves original series. conclude a 25 compared dozen predictions other authors: maximum would occur 2026.2 (± 1 yr) reach an amplitude 97.6 7.8), therefore sketching new “Modern minimum”, following Dalton Gleissberg minima.
